Almost Heroes

Plot Summary: Explorers Bartholemew Hunt and Leslie Edwards are setting forth against nature across the country on a journey to the Pacific Ocean against rivals Lewis and Clark. Along the way they have many mishaps and misfortunes.

Carter Review: Stupid, stupid, stupid funny. It's just that type of humor. Definitely got some good quotes: "You do know that she was made of straw, don't you." "Ah yes sir, I figure that's why she burned so easy." Or, "I don't know what's worse, the bear or my itchy nose....The bear is worse, the bear is definitely worse" (said screaming as he's being dragged off by a bear). I believe this was Chris Farley's last leading role and his face when trying to get an eagle's egg is classic. That alone is worth the trip. But be cautious of a bathing scene with bare backsides.

Adam Sandler SNL

Plot Summary: Before he was Happy Gilmore, Little Nicky, The Waterboy, or Billy Madison, Adam Sandler was doing Saturday Night Live playing hilarious characters and singing hilarious songs like the Hanukkah song and Christmas song. Watch Adam act in his own star studded way as Canteen Boy, Cajun Man, Opera Man, and much more!

Carter Review: I used to love these days of SNL. Adam was probably my favorite too. Highlights include easy to make Halloween costumes, Opera Man's rendition of Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, and The Denise Show (where he plays an obsessive ex-boyfriend). Good for an occasional laugh; unless you don't like this stuff, then it's not so good.

What About Bob?

Plot Summary: A successful psychiatrist loses his mind after one of his most dependent patients, a highly manipulative obsessive-compulsive, tracks him down during his family vacation.

Carter Review: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! A zany tongue in cheek movie that magnifies Bill Murray's talent for zaniness. This movie is a crack up! From the main character to the secondary, and tertiary characters!! What a great staple for the American movie watcher!

Bandits

Plot Summary: A charismatic convict and a hypochondriac inmate break out of prison and start a bank robbing spree. Becoming known as the "Sleepover Bandits", the two kidnap bank managers the night before their robbery, spend the night with their families, and then all go to the bank in the morning to get the dough. Using a dim-witted stunt man as their getaway driver and lookout, the three successfully pull off several jobs that gets them recognition on a tv show about America's criminals. When a bored housewife with a failing marriage decides to runaway, she ends up in the hands of the criminals.

Carter Review: Love this movie. Cracks me up. There is a threesome love triangle that creates some situations that aren't ideal. I think it is well done and enjoy the documentary feel through portions of the flick

Airplane!

Plot Summary: This is a spoof of the airport disaster movies. When the crew of an airplane are struck by some form of virus, the fate of the passengers depends on an ex-war pilot who is the only one able to land the plane safely! The passengers represent a selection of interesting wacky characters who seem to take every word for its literal meaning.

Carter Review: This is a weird movie, but I think everyone should watch it at least once. It's one of those sneaky movies from the 70's (1980 release) that was rated PG, but nowadays would be PG-13. Beware of some bums. HILARIOUS if you love word play or grew up reading Amelia Bedilia.

Addams Family Values

Plot Summary: Uncle fester finds true love (or is it ?) in Debbie, the Addamses's new babysitter, hired to care for the Addams' latest addition, Pubert. Debbie has her eye on Fester's money, but first she has to separate him from the rest of the family, while Wednesday and Pugsley are sent to a summer camp.

Carter Review: Once you see the first, you can't stop. Joan Cusak is so diverse and great. This family is just addicting, and this is a great sequel. Few risque comments here and there.

Addams Family

Plot Summary: The Addams step out of Charles Addams' cartoons. They live with all of the trappings of the macabre (including a detached hand for a servant) and are quite wealthy. Added to this mix is a crooked accountant and his loan shark and a plot to slip in the shark's son into the family as their long lost Uncle Fester. Can the false Fester find his way into the vault before he is discovered?

Carter Review: This is a classic to be pulled out every Halloween. My only exposure to the Addams family is the movie, so I can not compare it to the cartoon. But, this is one kooky family, and it's just fun to watch to see their eccentricity. There are a few sexual remarks made by Gomez and Morticia.

50 First Dates

Plot Summary: Henry Roth is a man afraid of commitment up until he meets the beautiful Lucy. They hit it off and Henry thinks he's finally found the girl of his dreams, until he discovers she has short-term memory loss and forgets him the very next day.

Carter Review: This movie breaks my heart. It is a great story that we just love. BUT, the secondary charcters are pretty inapporpriate. There is some questionable thematic elements to their character and inappropriate language. So although I would love to highly recommed it, the background stories keep me from doing so whole-heartedly.
