Bandits

Plot Summary: A charismatic convict and a hypochondriac inmate break out of prison and start a bank robbing spree. Becoming known as the "Sleepover Bandits", the two kidnap bank managers the night before their robbery, spend the night with their families, and then all go to the bank in the morning to get the dough. Using a dim-witted stunt man as their getaway driver and lookout, the three successfully pull off several jobs that gets them recognition on a tv show about America's criminals. When a bored housewife with a failing marriage decides to runaway, she ends up in the hands of the criminals.

Carter Review: Love this movie. Cracks me up. There is a threesome love triangle that creates some situations that aren't ideal. I think it is well done and enjoy the documentary feel through portions of the flick

Armageddon

Plot Summary: After New York City is damaged by hundreds of small meteorites, NASA discovers an asteroid the size of Texas is on a collision course with Earth. They recruit the best deep core driller in the world, Harry Stamper, to train astronauts who will go to the asteroid, drill into the center and detonate a nuclear warhead. Harry says he can't train men how to drill in ten days, so he brings in his own team of roughnecks to learn to become astronauts and get the job done. One of his team is the fiancé of his own daughter.

Carter Review: As a true female, the love story in this one is so wonderful that it was probably one of my top 3 favorite movies when I was a teeny-bopper. This is a great movie! It's got it all, love, action, comedy, suspense, drama, Bruce Willis...LOVE IT.

Anna and the King

Plot Summary: This is the story of Anna Leonowens, the English schoolteacher who came to Siam in the 1860s to teach the children of King Mongkut. She becomes involved in his affairs, from the tragic plight of a young concubine to trying to forge an alliance with Britain to a war with Burma that is orchestrated by Britain. In the meantime, a subtle romance develops between them.

Carter Review: You can only watch this if you promise me you will also one day watch The King and I. This is a stunning remake in which they cut out the music part of the musical. I've grown up in a home that loves Jodie Foster, so naturally we love this too.

Akeelah and the Bee

Plot Summary: Eleven year-old Akeelah Anderson's life is not easy: her father is dead, her mom ignores her, her brother runs with the local gangbangers. She's smart, but her environment threatens to strangle her aspirations. Responding to a threat by her school's principal, Akeelah participates in a spelling bee to avoid detention for her many absences. Much to her surprise and embarrassment, she wins. Her principal asks her to seek coaching from an English professor named Dr. Larabee for the more prestigious regional bee. As the possibility of making it all the way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee looms, Akeelah could provide her community with someone to rally around and be proud of -- but only if she can overcome her insecurities and her distracting home life.

Carter Review: I love seeing Cinderella stories like this. It is inspiring and tear-jerking. I would give it 2 thumbs up and recommend it to all.
