Aladdin and the King of Thieves

Plot Summary: At long last, Aladdin is about to marry the Princess Jasmine. Despite the presence and encouragement of his friends Genie, Carpet, and Abu, he is fearful and anxious. He is most worried as to what kind of father he will be, having never known his own. But when the 40 Thieves disrupt the wedding trying to steal a magical oracular talisman, Aladdin is drawn into a dangerous quest to stop the thieves...and find his long-lost father.

Carter Review: We would have to say this is probably the best released straight to DVD Disney sequel. It's really good. It's very helpful that Robin Williams is back as the Genie. It's some pretty good songs, it's fun, entertaining, and has good action! Not to mention some good one-liners.

Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story

Plot Summary: Set years after her resignation and return from Kingsport Ladies' College, Anne is persuaded to join her fiance, Gilbert, in New York City as he begins his tenure at a major hospital. However any chance of lasting happiness is dashed when Gilbert decides to bow to social pressure and enlist to serve in The Great War in Europe. Anne stays behind and becomes a published writer, but learns that contact has been lost with Gilbert. Seeing no other option, Anne decides to venture to Europe herself to find him. In doing so, she begins an adventure that would challenge her wits and imagination to the limit.

Carter Review: This 3rd installment of the Anne movies is much different than the first two. I consider the first two the same movie...I do not count this one in that string. It is still very good, and very moving, but I promise you'll enjoy it more if you don't compare it AT ALL to the first two movies. This is very emotional and pulls on those heart strings bit time.

Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel

Plot Summary: Anne Shirley accepts a teaching position at a girls boarding school in a town dominated by a rich and belligerant family determined to make her life miserable.

Carter Review: This just picks right up from the first set of movies, so I consider them one in the same. This one is a little more grown-up, but still the same wonderful Anne Shirley, with the same amazing tales and adventures. Oh, but Gilbert Blythe is even dreamier in this one!

Anne of Green Gables

Plot Summary: At the turn of the century on Prince Edward Island, Matthew Cuthbert and his sister Marilla decide to take on an orphan boy as help for their farm. But they get an unexpected jolt when they're mistakenly sent a girl instead: Anne Shirley. Anne's a dreamer with an unusual point of view, far removed from Marilla's pragmatic ways, and it's only on trial that Marilla agrees to keep Anne...if Anne can keep out of trouble, only Anne has a positive genius for it.

Carter Review: My dad likes to call this Anne of Green Boring, but I know deep down even he loves it. I think this movie is necessary in order to be considered a human being. Anne is one of literature's (and now movies) greatest characters. She is inspirational. And Gil, I won't even get into those dreamy details. This is a long, but very enjoyable, very worthwhile watch. The kind of movie that makes you want to snuggle under a blanket in front of a fire with some popcorn.

Babe: Pig in the City

Plot Summary: Babe, fresh from his victory in the sheepherding contest, returns to Farmer Hoggett's farm, but after Farmer Hoggett is injured and unable to work, Babe has to go to the big city to save the farm.

Carter Review: This is a sequel that is better than the first movie. And that doesn't happen very often. The characters in this movie are outlandish and marvelous. Thelonius is an oranga-thingy...that's all I need to say. And, I love the climax, especially all of the beautiful ball gowns. Plus it is SO FUN to try and decide what "city" Babe is in. Basically, come borrow Babe and Babe:Pig in the City from us as soon as you can.

Babe

Plot Summary: Farmer Hoggett wins a runt piglet at a local fair and young Babe, as the piglet decides to call himself, befriends and learns about all the other creatures on the farm. He becomes special friends with one of the sheepdogs, Fly. With Fly's help, and Farmer Hoggett's intuition, Babe embarks on a career in sheepherding with some surprising and spectacular results.

Carter Review: Nothing warms the soul like a good date with Babe. I love this movie. I love the singing mice. I love the farmer's wife, I love the farmer, and most of all I love Babe. This is a GREAT movie for English literature lovers. It has fabulous themes an such. Plus, movies with talking animals are always a crack-up.

Aladdin: The Return of Jafar

Plot Summary: Aladdin is adjusting to his new life as part of the upper crust. He and Princess Jasmine may not be married yet, but the pressures of palace society have already begun. On top of that, Iago (the parrot pet of Sultan's ex-vizir turned genie, Jafar) appears asking for help and no one is happy to see him. But things begin to look up when Genie returns from his trip around the world. Meanwhile, Jafar's black lamp is discovered by an idiot crook called Abis Mal. By using Abis Mal, Jafar makes his way back to Agrabah with ideas of payback for Aladdin and his friends.

Carter Review: This does not have the original voice cast...and that makes all the difference. BUT, I still really like the dorky little bad guy, Abis Mal. The movie misses Robin Williams, but I still really enjoy the story, and the end is pretty suspenseful!

101 Dalmations (animated)

Plot Summary: Pongo and Perdita have a litter of 15 puppies. Cruella De Vil takes a fancy to the pups, and wants to get hold of them, as well as more pups, to make herself a lovely dalmatian skin coat... Cruella hires some thugs to kidnap the pups and hold them at her mansion. Will Pongo and Perdita find them in time ?

Carter Review: A heart warming experience of K-9 adventures. It has sensational music too! This is just another one of those amazing Disney movies. And is harmonized by the delightful English accents and culture. Plus, it's from the dogs perspective. How fun is that?

Aladdin

Plot Summary: Aladdin, a street rat, is the only person who can enter the cave of wonders and retrieve a magical lamp for the dark Vizier Jafar. Aladdin becomes trapped in the cave with his sidekick, Abu, and accidentally discovers the resident of the lamp. Aladdin develops a relationship with the Genie and uses his wishes to become a prince to chase the affections of Princess Jasmine.

Carter Review: If you haven't seen this, you haven't lived yet.This is hands down phenomenal!!

Alice in Wonderland

Plot Summary: Disney version of Lewis Carroll's Children's story. Alice becomes bored and her mind starts to wander. She sees a white rabbit who appears to be in a hurry. She chases it into its burrow and then a most bizarre series of adventures begins.

Carter Review: Some may say this movie is a little trippy, but 2 year olds love it. I think the volume of bizarre adventures Alice goes on makes the movie fun.

Anastasia

Plot Summary:The only surviving child of the Russian Royal Family hooks up with two con men while the undead Rasputin seeks her death.

Carter Review: Anastasia and Dmitri are my favorite animated couple of all time. The music in this movie is also great. I think this movie is so well done--and the villain is pretty creepy. Some of his scenes are a little scary for my 2 year old.

101 Dalmatians

Plot Summary:A woman kidnaps puppies to kill them for their fur, but various animals then gang up against her and get their revenge in slapstick fashion.

Carter Review: It's always interesting to see how they make a classic animated film into a people film. They did a good job with this one. Glenn Close is great. They modernized the story too, which helped me not compare this to the "orignal" as much.

Toy Story

Plot Summary: Imagination runs rampant when toys become mobile when not watched. Two toys, Woody and Buzz Lightyear despise each other like no other. But, when the toys are separated from their home, a truce is formed between them all in an effort to journey home.

Carter Review: This is clearly the greatest movie of all time. The characters are loveable, the antoganist is not, the music is great, the animation was revolutionary for it's time. Pixar made it's name with Toy Story, and of course, Eric and I fell in love becsaue of it. It is comedic and touching and clean and marvelous in every way!
