Beowulf

Plot Summary:The warrior Beowulf must fight and defeat the monster Grendel who is terrorizing towns, and later, Grendel's mother, who begins killing out of revenge.

Carter Review: Probably the worst movie I've ever seen. It was very much like watching an excessively gory video game...oh, yeah and all the blood and guts were coming out at me in 3-D! The hero, Beowulf, is not very lovable as he's kind of selfish and lustful. He is tough, and also fights in the buff. Dark and not enjoyable. For details on its full contents IMDB's "parents guide" for advisory content is really good at explaining. To sum it up, if it hadn't been "animated" it would have been R or NC-17.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Plot Summary:When a missing page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth surfaces, Bens great-great grandfather is suddenly implicated as a key conspirator in Abraham Lincolns death. Determined to prove his ancestors innocence, Ben follows an international chain of clues that takes him on a chase from Paris to London and ultimately back to America. This journey leads Ben and his crew not only to surprising revelations but to the trail of the worlds most treasured secrets.

Carter Review: Good movie! I'm not convinced yet that it was a great movie, though. I had really high expectations coming into it since we loved the first one. My review on it may change after a second viewing, because I definitely didn't catch everything the first time through. I felt that the focus was centered more on the action in this one. I didn't feel the need for them to find what they were looking for. Kind of lacking in development. But still very fun and enjoyable. And a cool Goofy short before the movie!! :)

I Am Legend

Plot Summary:Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure.

Carter Review: I really enjoyed this movie. I felt that it had great action and suspense that was pretty scary at times, but didn't leave you with a gross, horror feeling. Will Smith is amazing and he carries this film all the way, as the only "human" amongst zombie-like monsters. He's funny, tough, smart, cool and even dramatic. It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it's pretty good. There's also a good theme of faith, that comes out at the end, but is also interlaced in early parts of the movie.


Likelyhood of Buying: We'll see how much my wife really loves me...(though she loves me a lot, so we'll probably own this one day).

27 Dresses

Plot Summary: After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister's side as her sibling marries the man she's secretly in love with.

Carter Review: I really liked this movie. Every second with James Marsden is golden. The seconds that he is not in are more questionable. Secondary characters are a little lude. There is A LOT of cursing in this movie. I think they run the whole gammet of words too. Story is too die for though.

Likelyhood of Buying: An edited version would be ideal--could potentially own this one day.

Definitely, Maybe

Plot Summary:A political consultant tries to explain his impending divorce and past relationships to his 11-year-old daughter. He takes her through 3 love stories aof his past as she tries to guess which one is her mother and help true love happen again.

Carter Review: Funny story--our bishop was in the same theater as us when we saw this. Before the movie started we said jokingly to each other, "Well, if Bishop walks out we'll know we need to too!" Sure enough, 40 min. into it, Bishop walked out--so we did too. This is a pretty sexual movie. I would not recommend it.

Likelyhood of buying: Ha! That would be a no.

Enchanted

Plot Summary: A classic Disney fairy tale collides with modern-day New York City in a story about a fairytale princess who is sent to our world by an evil queen. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer. Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

Carter Review: Um, a MUST SEE. Clever, cute, great music, hilarious, enjoyable, feel good...it's just great. Go see it.
